Crios Malbec 2013 made in carbonic style. rich and supple.. a little bit of a green finish

Merino Syrah Limari Chile 2012 slight vegetal aromas, just pleasant but not over the top exciting.. would be a good food wine.

Peirano Estate with Michael Smith/ Classique

Lodi property..
The whites were servedway to cold to really show much.. the chard was wente clone and almost sweet. viognier was missing the nose. and THE OTher was nice but definitely chard driven

The reds to a t had a strong vegetal character on the nose, except for

cabernet Sauvignon 2012  fruit driven nose with good tannin and fruit on the palate
Petite Sirah tobacco/tar nose with lots of juicy and sturdy tannin on the palate.. could handle itself in a steak fight..

All of these wines were line priced and good value in general.. but really liked the Petite Sirah the best.

steele wines steve tylicki / bommarito

Jed Steele the mastermind behind the blendng of Kendall Jacksons vintners cuvee chardonnay years ago.
Shooting star Sauv Blanc 2013 Lake County.. slight grassy, slight melon, herbacious.. nice enough

Writers Block Roussanne 2012 round and slightly honeyed to me not the typical young green olivey wine this grape produces... told being from a higher elevation makes it this way

Steele Pinot Blanc 2012... slightly disappointed with this because it came off being way more Chard like from the nose to the finish.. round for sure but too much smoky oaky vanilla

Shooting Star Blue Franc (lemberger) Blaufrankish juicy and smoky fun discovery wine

Steele Pinot Noir Carneros 2012.. typical dried fruits.. black cherry.. long finish

Steele Pacini Zinfandel 2011  planted in 1943 more about the zin than the alcohol.. rustic but not too earthy.. a slight bacon fat on the end

grgich glazer

Grgich winery founded in 77 has a long history in Napa Valley

Fume Blanc 2011... the story goes that Grgich working along side Robert Mondavi came up with the name Fume Blanc to honor the Sauvignon grapes Loire roots, where it is known as Pouilly Fume. and this wine would blind taste more Loire like.. mineral and crisp.. not at all grapefruit

Chardonnay Napa Valley 2011.. showing  a little disjointed, nose of oak and steely acidity but not a lot of fruit showing through.

Zinfandel Napa 2009.. definitely zin on the nose and not californian on the palate.. lean

tommasi lunch with Elena Zin from the winery/ Jaspers

Where else to have an Italian lunch with wine than next door at Jaspers. and with a name like Elena Zin she obviously had to get into the wine business

Tommasi Prosecco NV.. made in the heart of the Prosecco DOCG this really does show how a well made prosecco could compete with champagne, unfortunately most prosecco in the market is mass lproduced and inexpensive

Tommasi Pinot Grigio LE ROSSI 2012.. again.. the right grapes planted in the right climate and soil.. much as merlot was overplanted in the 90s to places it shouldnt go so has pinot grigio been treated. The result here is a lush bright wine that happens to be more expensive

Tommasi Arele Apassimento 2010  made from the traditional valpolicella grapes, corvina, rondinella and merlot... where some of the grapes go to dry, the others are held for a shorter time... very round and luscious

Tommasi Valpolicella Rafael 2011.. a great value for the money... a wonderful pizza or pasta wine

Tommasi Ripasso 2011.. the wine is fermented then allowed to be pumped over amarone skins to give a hint of the Amarone style... also a good value

Tommasi Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 2009.. these grapes are rested in trays for up to 40 days then pressed.. these can sometime give a raison character but this wine has more of the robust busty character that stands up to any meat..

Jourdan bordeaux Superiore 2007  predominately Cab franc.. cinnamon and spice and everything nice.. oh wait thats something else.. long silky tannin.. very nice

Chateau Pierrefitte lalande de pomerol Cuvee de Malte 2010  merlot based.. very nice depth of flavor.. almost meaty like a syrah... could really use a steak or chewy meat dish

cynthia/ bommarito

Domaine Romaine Collet Les Pargues Chablis 2011.. definite chablis nose of minerality.. missingsome of that nervosity or tension that Chablis can have..

Luigi Baudana Dragon Langhe Bianco 2011 a blend of chard/pinot blanc/riesling and sauv blanc.. lots of texture and fruit round from the pinot blanc and slight sweet from the drier riesling... very enjoyable for a hot summer day

Tiennes Sainte Fleur Viognier Provence 2012.. finding well priced Viognier from france can be tricky, either pricy or bad. this is nice white pepper with some stone fruit on the back... juicy and long finish

Chateau la tour de mons Margaux 2012  french stink on the nose, dark fruit and earth on the palate.. just a hint of spice

Chevalier de lascombes margaux 2009 depth in flavor and color, long finish  not as much of the french stink but not too new world either

Bouchard Chardonnay 2012... mostly neutral oak.. pleasant

Beaune de Chateau 2009. white.. surprisingly tropical fruit.. with a light toasty oak finish.. would almost have thought this central coast

Bouchard Pinot Noir 2011  light in color and texture.. a good beginner for french pinot noir ( notice that they are dumbing down the label for the American consumer)......

Beaune de Chateau red 2009.. best wine of the day meaty, dark fruit.. silky tannins. long dry finish.. interesting in that it is a blend of different Premier Cru lots instead of just being one specific site from the Beaune

Pinnacle with Paul Wilkins/ Alta Maria

2011 Alta Maria Sauv Blanc.. offputting slight chemical nose, with an interesting Chipolte or chile overtones on the palate.

Buty Semillon/Sauvignon Muscadelle blend.. Columbia Valley round nose of melon and minerality..nice enough acidity

SansSoo Languedoc... is nice i guess to taste a really bad wine once in a while to know that they do still exist. This biodynamic grenache/syrah blend from the south of france is so bad.. tart and strange on the palate.. a metalic taste with a hint of sausage...

Martinozzi Brunello di Montalicino 2009  brickish in color and cinnamon earthy character. very nice idea of the area at not a lot of money

Hestia Columbia Valley Red blend 2011.. syrah, cab, petite verdot and malbec. dark color in the glass with spice, mocha and cocoa dominating.  tight nose so it could use some aeration or age.. cedar and tannins..with some dark cherry on the finish

Edict Chardonnay Napa 2011 made from Hyde Vineyard fruit by guest winemaker Jay Bonnacorsi.. toasty nose with good acidity.. long fruit frinish but not overly ml or oaked... an almost meaty finish.. interesting and good price for the source

Edity Cabernet Sauvignon Napa 2010.. made by Mark Herald from Stagecoach vineyard.. dark forboding in the glass, and its all about texture.. tannin and heat..fruit is there but really has to be coaxed out.. just bottled and shipped may need to revisit in 6 months or so

Caine Thompson/ Pyramid Valley Vineyards/ Ionia

Interesting winery out of New Zealand with the managing director from there as well. very soft spoken.. not the brash type I have come to new from there..they have gone around NZ and found varietals that are not traditional or popular and worked them into a series of wines

2009 Riverbrook Vineyard Riesling.. very old world in style.. lots of diesel and minerality... seemingly sweet needs food

2010 Kerner Estate Pinot Blanc  lots of texture and maybe the glass was still reeking from the Riesling but there was the diese..l touch again.. round mouthfeel

2010 Twin Valleys Vineyard Savagnin Rose a member of the Gewurztraminer family? that gave an interesting yeasty nose, slightly vegetal.. viscous like a gewurz.. still trying to decide if I liked it

2010 Earth Smoke Pinot Noir from clay and limestone soil. earthy notes with a little mushroom.. light weight on body but finished long

2008 Rose Vineyard late harvest riesling.. wow talk about smelling old world.. this tons of petrol and honeysuckle I am still tasting an hour after trying.. not overly viscous.. would work well with blue cheese

These are not styles of wines I am attracted to but I know that if I only sold wines I like we wouldnt be here..and no matter what other wine merchants may say there is no wrong profile

Angeli Alexander Valley 2010  slightly menthol or eucalyptus on the nose, bright fruit flavors.. zin, petite sirah and carignan blend.. Angeli is a single ranch wine

Derrick Jackson with Major Brands... a newbie at tasting with me

Brancott Pinot Grigio 2013  a slightly lower in calorie wine... which leads one to say the woman would have to buy it because a man cant hand a bottle of low cal wine to a woman without fear of having that bottle thrown back...low cal wines were popular for about a minute 10 years ago when Beringer came out with low cal loww carb wine that quickly went into the closeout bin.  that being said the wine was light and uneventful... slight lemon on the palate.

Graffino Pinot Grigio 2012 Argentina.. the bottle was off.. too much carbonation... because there shouldnt be any, and the nose was all about slate and diesel which would be great for Alsace but Argentina, not so much

Dead Bolt White. California 2012... a blend of chard and chenin blanc... sweet but not enough  and simple.

Dead Bolt Red California 2011 .. a zin blend similar to Apothic...that was pretty in the glass and had some interesting notes on the nose of the style I like, and on the palate it stays that way except it is a little sweeter than I like on the finish.. a little meaty though

Pierre with Bernard Maguez/ terra firma

Interesting to try 3 different vintages of the same wine, and to also see the difference in labeling laws.

Chateau Frombrauge Grand Clu St Emilion 1999,  brickish brown in color.. tobaccco on the nose, showing some fruit but mostly past the prime... 99 was to have been a great right bank vintage

Chateau Frombrauge Grand Clu st Emilion 2006  slightly brickish in color... stinky feet vegetal on the nose, and showing more vegetal characteristics on the palate

Chateau Fronbrauge Grand Clu St Emilion 2010   dark in the glass  good fruit, structure and tannin on the palate.. soft oak back taste

Haut Peyraguey Sauternes 2010  honey and grass on the nose, apricots and lemon grass on the palate... relatively light bodied for a sticky.. but might not be a bad thing with peoples palates gettting over tired from the viscousity

Michael Pozzan Wines/ Appellations

2010 Russian River Chardonnay toasty nose, creamy and round... typical cali chard

2011 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir.. bright cherry, soft on the palate.. light acidity... pretty but not much else

2010 Alexander valley Cabernet good depth of color, lots of high notes but missing some middle gut.. good for the price point but there are many in this price and quality

Cynthia/Bommarito..

Toscala Vernaccia diSan Gimignano Tuscany 2012.. Vernaccia is one of the first Italian whites I ever tried.. back in the Mama Stuffeati days that was a easy drinking white wine before the days of Pinot Grigio... minerality.. surprisingly sweet tropical fruit on the finish..

Bodegas Naia Las Brisas Rueda Spain 2012... a verdejo/viura blend.. floral nose and slight pink grapefruit on the finish.. very mouthfilling

Lang and Reed Cabernet Franc North Coast 2011... showing the vegetal side of the varietal. lots of tar and tobacco. nice light juicy though.. not a lot of depth

Domaine du Joncier Le Classique Lirac 2011  again with the lavender floral on the nose, juicy long lasting deep flavors of typical character... one of my favorites..

trademark with mark joseph.. new distributor in town

With the collapse of Garco and Golden Barrel there will be new distributors in the market. Trademark is one that has been around for a short while but will be adding to their portfolio.

Hestia Chenin Blanc 2011 Washington   I was hoping for something here.. Chenin can be a great wine when produced in cooler climates..(vouvray)  this had a slight honeyed character with some minerality but the finish was blunt and dull.. reminding me of old italian whites

Anne Amie Cuvee A Muller Thurgau Willamette Valley 2012... this wine on the other hand is really fun... before Pinot was the rage in Oregon the german settlers had planted riesling and Muller, which is a hybrid of Riesling and.... , this wine has light melon and pineapple with pleasant acidity... a little short on the finish would be my main complaint

Vega Tolosa 11 Pinos Bobal La Mancha 2012 Bobal is a grape type from spain that usually is a blending grape.. dark inky in the glass. a slightly young nose that from the taste should go away with time.. nice grip or texture on the palate.. sweet cherry on the back

Gigi Rosso Barbera d'Alba 2010  dark purple in the glass, italian stink on the nose, cherry bfruit with some tannin on the finish... pleasant enough... but not really a stand out

Chateau Brandau Bordeaux Superiore 2011  mostly merlot with 20% cab,, meaty nose a little earthy on the palate.. medium body but there is a slight metallic hint on the finish which killed it for me

Gallo fine wines, not an oxymoron, really

Brancaia Chianti Classico 2009.. nothing but dusty earthy Italian stink. one would think they were corked except they did not have that flavor.. some weight to it but nothing of what I thought Brancaia would be like

Las Rocas Vielle Vigne Garnacha 2010... lots going on from this old vine monster.. worth twice the price... upfront fruit and structure. and good price for what it delivers... one of the times where gallo money helped improve the product and keep the price down.

marion with terra firma

Domaine du Pere Caboche Rose 2013  my first 13 rose to try. not really impressed with it. hints of strawberry.. a touch blu nt on the finish.. maybe predominately new vines

Smoke Stack Sauv Blanc 2012  smelled sb.. herbal,, melon.. surprisingly sweet..

The Path.. a new wine by the Sebastiani family  as a whole not very pleased with the assortment... too much residual sugar or fruity, not any complexity or thought to good wine, just drinkable wine.. all of them were from the 12 vintages.

Chard, Pinot noir, Cabernet and Merlot

josh mott. ionia

2011 Vinchio Vaglio Serra Rebus ruche  fromm Castagno Monferato.. sweet nose, some dark cherry fruit but quickish finish

Jax 3 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 2012 fruity nose, hints of rhubarb.. but red cherry on the palate.. nice enoughh

2012 Nemorino Rosso Tuscano blend of syrah, sangiovese and merlot.. not an italian stink on the nose, mouthwatering acidity.. pretty but not usual tuscan.. must be syrah

2010 Roza Ridge Petite Verdot Washington usually a blending grape because of its herbacious nature... this is a riper version nice up front fruit tannin.. some cocoa on the palate. fun wine

2008 Hyatt Winter Harvest Riesling Washington  golden yellow color.. light viscousity.. tastes more like a apple than grape wine.. not complex at all.. just sweet

Jade Lynch/ Bennett Lane Winery Napa/ Pinnacle

2010 Bennett Lane reserve Chardonnay.. forgot to ask why they call it reserve when they do not have a regular chard... purchased fruit.. lots of mid palate activity.. toasty nose, enough acidity but a slight dullish finish

2009 Bennett Lane Maximus described as a red feasting wine, named for Maximas someone from the middle ages.. Cab, merlot, syrah and malbec.. juicy with some texture on the mid palate..

2009 Bennett Lane Cabernet Sauvignon Napa  good tannin, dark fruit long finish.. everything you want a $60 cab to do

2006 Bennett Lane Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon.. dusty nose, lots of upfront fruit tannin.. could probably hold for some time but when most current vintages are 2010.. hard to explain the 2006 is just in the store.. difference between restaurant where age is valued.. and liquor stores where the question is whats wrong with it..

claire and wines pinnacle

Au Bon Climat Pinot Noir Santa Barbara 2012... slight green nose, vegetal probably will go away with age.. lots of red berry fruit but  expecting a little more

San Fabiano Chianti Putto 2012 bright cherry on the nose and palate.. not typical italian... but a good sipper

Fin Amour Mauyry Cotes Catalanes Languedoc 2008... toasty oak nose and way to much oak on the palate.. hiding the fruit.. way too much oak

Cult Cabernet Sauvignon NV.. vanilla and sweet cherry on the nose.. not a lot of tannin.. kind of boring after a bit..

Clio 2011 vanilla and lots of grip on the palate.. can use some food... lots of black fruit and tannin... tasty but big

Americana Petite Syrah 2011  lots of color not a lot of flavor

Agua de Piedra Malbec 2012 Argentina water of the stone.. a little earthy on the nose but good fruit through to the finish.. a touch dirty

Hoopes/ Appellations

Hoopla 2012 Chardonnay Napa unoaked with no ml but stirred lees for the creaminess.. and some tropical fruit nice

Hoopla The Mutt 2011 blended.. juicy with chocolate and mocha hints.. lots of fruit upfront but a quick finish

Liparita Yountville Cabernet 2009  dark color with some alcoholic smells.. blue fruit on the palate.. with some structure tannin.. almost sweet finish

Hoopes Oakville 2010 cedar and smoky... nice grip or texture

Liparita Oakville 2009  toasty lush and supple... just what you would expect from this price and quality.

josh mott/ Ionia wines

2012 Vinchio-Vaglio Serra Verde Mare Cortese light colored slight green hue white wine.. some pretty fruit on the front but it faded quickly to a dull finish...

2010 Durigutti Bonarda Argentina one of the most interesting wines I have tried in a long time... very linear or single minded on the palate and then it explodes in the back... lots of syrah like character... fun

2011 matteo Correggia Roero Nebbiolo  Light in color but clear.. slight italian stink some light cherry or red fruit notes... pleasant finish. delicate

2009 Roza Ridge Syrah Washington State.. juicy and pleasant more fruit forward than expecting not a long finish but pleasant for the money... have to say I hate the label though.. looks like someone spilled liquid on it..

Terlato wines/ Major Brands

Sanford Pinot Noir La Rinconada Santa Rita Hills 2010  clay aromas, crayon, very bright fruit.. ample acidity..

Markham 1879 Red Blend Napa Valley 2011  merlot based and very ripe given the vintage being cool.. pencil box on the nose, juicy ripe fruit finish

Tiramisu Liqueur marsala based liquor.. lots of cocoa and chocolate. sweet.. a little lighter than kahlua but a somewhat similar

cynthia/ bommarito

Wither Hills Sauv Blanc Marlborough 2012... yet another sb from new zealand.. and yet this had a more interesting nose of lime and jalapeno.. zesty as usual on the palate

MacRostie Sonoma Coast Chardonnay 2012.. lots of high notes... definitely cool climate chard.. not a lot of ml..

MacRostie Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 2011 toasty marshmellow nose, no mistaking it for cali pinot but not the fruit bomb some can be.. more complicated and finessed

St Hallett Gamekeepers  Red Barossa 2012  very clean nose, and juicy with a touch of green young vine on the back

St Hallett Faith Shiraz Barossa 2011.. lots of bing cherry up front fruit.. not much depth past that but tasty for what it is.

josh mott/ ionia

Hyatt Pinot Gris 2012 Rattlesnake Hills Washington 2012 if i was tasting this blind I think I would have said it was Sauv Blanc.. very grassy and fragrant

Paydirt Sauv Blanc 2011 Central Coast.. if tasting this I would guess Chard.. you can see why some called Sauv Blanc a poor mans Chardonnay... round  with some toasty notes.. but very linear on the palate... straight through from front to back

Domaine Sainte Leocadie Minervois 2010 a syrah grenache carignan blend.. young vine aromas and a little juicy but missing some middle and finish.

Bodega Monteviejo Petite Fluer Argentina 2009  a malbec blend... a little old.. some spice on the palate but a bit blunt on the finish

Turnbull with Joel Portmann/ Pinnacle Imports

Turnbull has been in the kc market for a long time but lost in a big distributors book so they moved to Pinnacle.. more than doubling their last years number in the first months

2010 Turnbull Napa Valley Cabernet ... tight nose but yummy fruit.. lots of lush tannin on the end... dark fruit...

2010 Turnbull OakVille Cabernet... meant to showcase the dirt of the Oakville AVA  defintely more tannic again with the dark fruit and mouthwatering tannins..

2010 Turnbull Black Label Cabernet best of the oakville vineyard.. mountain fruit,.. lots of higher notes on the palate.. mouth filling and huge would need some time to settle out.

Neyers Vineyards. Missouri Beverage Bruce Neyer

cynthia bommarito/ bernie lee glazers

Cynthia.

Domaine Sylvain Langoureau Bourgogne Aligote 2012  a very lemon aid nose, a bit fruity.. aligote is a white wine that is allowed in burgundy but not usually represented on its own

Zuani Collio 2011 a blend of white grapes from the northeast area of Italy.. tart.. pink grapefruit. lush mouthfeel. thought it would have a longer finish but very pleasant

Chateau Marjosse Bordeaux blanc 2012 Sauv Blanc, Semillon and Muscadelle.. sweet lemon lime nose, some herbacious character.. nice acidity.. may be harder to pair with food as opposed to being by itself

Fantini Sagiovese igt abruzzo 2012.. fruit nose, touch of dirt on the palate but not aggresive.. lush almost sweet jammy finish..
