caymus luncheon with Chuck Wagner

The famous Charles Wagner of Caymus fame was in town for a quick luncheon at the Capitol Grille... and of course free food at CG means I am so there

There are several wines under the Caymus umbrella.

Mer Soleil Central Coast winery which produces Chardonnay
Silver 2010 unoaked.. lightly sweet..a taste of honey? no malo and very light and crisp and totally unCalifornia in style.. also in a new bottle that reminds one of the old lancer bottle.. ceramic to pay homage to the cement containers they put this wine into... cement is a breathable surface like oak without imparting those unwanted flavors...

Mer Soleil regular  2009... lots of creaminess but little ml and little new oak... a much more restrained style than was expected.. and Mr Wagner commented on how they have brought the wine under control

Pinot Noir from Caymus

Meomi California 2009.. rich and sweet a little candy apple.  almost too sweet... but a good starting wine for someone wanting to start trying Pinot Noir..

Belle Glos (named for his mothers maiden name) Clark & Telephone Vineyard ( the vines a located on a parcel of land that intersects two roads..clark and telephone... a little more depth than the meomi but for the money not as much.. still sweet succulent fruit.

Caymus Cabernet and Special Select both 2009... I have to say that these surprised me by how much alike they taste today... as mr w said they do that on purpose... but the true test comes when the special select lasts for decade or so.. lots of vanilla and cassis... again sweet and lush tannins.. maybe a little heat from alcohol.. but truly everything you want from a Napa top notch cab...
