day 2 of pinot camp

I think it is interesting that the wine that made the biggest impression on me at pinot camp was not pinot noir but pinot blanc,a white mutation of pinot noir.. from bethel heights a beautiful, rounded aromatic but not sweet wine knocked my socks off last night at the pre tasting event at domaine serene which was beautiful too, and luckily today at Oregon cool whites we tasted it again blind and luckily I was able to pick it out from a flight of 6 .

It's hard to understand why, when Pinot blanc can be so seductive, there are only 217 acres of Pinot blanc planted in the Willamette Valley, and only about 12 producers making Pinot blanc wine, while there are over 2500 acres of Pinot gris here, and almost every winery bottles it. Granted the blanc is less forgiving in the vineyard than the gris, this isn't the kind of thing that would deter a Willamette Valley grapegrower. I can only think it must have been just an accident of history, that gris got its foot in the door first. Pat
